The first of these technologies includes fiber optic based sensing solutions. The technology involves fiber optic cables nearly identical to those used in telecommunications. In most cases these chemical detecting fiber optic cables can be fabricated to provide either point or distributed sensing solutions for a variety of applications. Due to their thread like dimensions and material construct, these robust sensors are also capable of providing a wide variety of flexible and in situ measurement capabilities. Their intrinsic properties also make them immune to strong vibration and electromagnetic interference.
ChromoSense is also developing state of the art optical imaging based sensing solutions. This technology revolves around the use of full field imaging devices such as cameras to provide valuable information on items of interest. The technology is currently being applied towards subsurface corrosion in coatings with great potential for other relevant applications. The intuitive use of imaging allows for quick and detailed transduction of information for the user.
